Fellow Marin Republicans,

Welcome to the new year. As we begin 2016, the Marin GOP is busy laying the groundwork for this year's elections where we will nominate and elect a new president as well as support our local candidates. Since I took over as chair this last year, people frequently have asked me what Republicans in Marin can hope to accomplish in a county as left-leaning as Marin. The answer is easy: just follow our bylaws which state that our top two priorities are registering new Republicans and ensuring high Republican turnout on election day and that is exactly what we are planning on doing from now through November. Our goal for voter registration is to register as many new Republicans as possible by the November election as we have found that although Republicans do not represent a majority, our voting block is large enough to influence and decide elections. Our Finance Committee, is busy soliciting donors to support these efforts as we will be using paid canvassers to assist us in reaching our goal. In addition, we plan an aggressive "get out the vote" (GOTV) effort for both elections. Our June primary has twenty local seats up for re-lection including three on the Board of Supervisors. The November general has twenty four seats up. Both are prime opportunities for Republicans wishing to get a start in public service to seek office. Should you decide to run, we will support you by registering new Republicans in your area followed up by mailings and phone banks to "get out the vote" for you come election day. We will deliver the Repiublican vote. It will be up to the candidate to garner the votes of the non-Republicans in their area to ensure a victory. Voter discontent is high in Marin at this time making it an excellent opportunity to run for office. The "entrenched incumbency" as we refer to it has worn out its welcome.

Heading into the General election in November, we will once again have a campaign headquarters centrally located in downtown San Rafael. Our goal is to open shortly after the convention when the nominee will be decided. Volunteers will be needed as well for staffing, phone banking and precinct walking. You can sign up on our volunteer page listed above.

Thank you all for the privilege of serving as your chairman as our committee looks forward to a prosperous and victorious 2016.

Regards,
Tom Montgomery
Chair, Marin GOP
