With But a Slight Whimper

• By Jack Wilkinson 2020 Chair MCRCC I watched our beloved nation, the Land of the Free, home of Brave, birthplace of individual Liberty, die. The body barely twitched in its death throes and there were no convulsions as the breath of liberty simply suffocated under the government edict the Constitution was written to prevent. Or, at the least, make very difficult. It failed. Not through any fault of the document itself, but rather due to its inept population. The American people, a once proud and independent population, had become fat, actually obese, and far too dependent on Big Government in the years since WWll. The politicians of both parties had allowed the administrative state to grow until it, the unelected heads of various agencies run by political appointees and the government unions, were actually in control of the powers of that government. Oh, it was not actually planned but it was the overriding goal of the political left. All of this according to Saul Alinsky’s plan. And while the political right, in particular the Republicans, gave lip service to the idea of “Freedom and Liberty” the words were actually spelled in lowercase type. There was a glut of both food and riches and an undisciplined and adolescent mind set gorged on ever “cheaper” goods from foreign manufacturers and the idea that the government would take care of them. And the government provided just enough to convince a

• majority of the somnolent population, along with the growth of the “victim” mentality, to make so many citizens become subjects without even knowing what was happening. We have been the frog in the cold pot now being brought to boil. Wake up!! I, personally, want to continue to live in a nation governed by and for the people. As James Madison said to the Constitutional Convention in 1787“If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself.” WAKE UP! No more whimpering. We are NOT angels and we MUST control the government. That is precisely what The Constitution is all about. We MUST only elect people who recognize that the voter controls the state, not the state controlling the citizen. Were it to be otherwise, are we but subjects of the ruling class? At present we are still a “free people” with an election coming up in November 2020. We must do everything we can, march, call, mail, demonstrate, make a LOT OF NOISE and get President Donald Trump reelected for another term. He is making the correct noises for a free people. President Trump is DOING those things necessary for a free nation to continue.
